Weekly Workouts

I haven't run with my Garmin since the Chicago Marathon.

Admittedly, I've run minimally since Chicago but when I have run, I've run 100 percent technology free. It's been really nice.

I'm not training for anything right now and I'm not sure when I will be. Don't worry, I'll be racing this year, but I didn't want to commit to training through the winter because I really hate winter running. I don't want to go out and run on a day when the wind chill is -6. I have a few races on my radar for 2016 and I'll post about those soon but in the spirit of bringing this back to being a running blog, let's talk about running and what last week looked like.

Monday: 25 minutes of Yoga with Adriene. Adriene's at-home, online yoga classes are the first at-home workouts I've ever really enjoyed.

Tuesday: 3 easy miles. Warm-up: 10 squats, 5 burpees.

Wednesday: Rest Day. My shoulders were really sore from Monday's yoga workout.

Thursday: 3 easy miles. Warm-up: 10 squats, 5 burpees.

Friday: Fresh Start 5k with Courtney.

Saturday: 30 minutes of Yoga with Adriene.

Sunday: 50 minutes of Yoga with Adriene.

I signed up for Adriene's Yoga Camp. I'm not sure if I plan to commit to the whole 30 days, but we'll see. I'm already realizing, after only three yoga workouts, how much this is going to help my running. The left side of my body is so much tighter than the right and the balance poses are integral to a strong core and to running! I had a PT tell me once that running is alternately balancing from one foot to the other, so working on those balance skills will definitely make me a better, stronger runner.

Originally, I planned to run four times last week, but I'm really happy with three runs and three yoga workouts. This is a lot more exercise than I've done in one week since Chicago so I'll take it!

I know that I need to focus on some low- to no- impact cardio in addition to strength workouts that are a little more intense than yoga, but for right now, for this week, I'm focusing on running and yoga and I think that's just fine. One of the items on my 30 before 30 list is a 30-Day yoga challenge...and who knows, this might be it. Right now, I'm just taking it one day and one pose at a time!
