Weekend Happenings: The Pilot's Birthday Edition

With me heading out to Sundance and The Pilot off flying planes, it ended up being 10 days since we'd seen each other when he got off the plane Friday night. Not the longest stretch we've had by any means, but certainly the longest since our wedding!

When he got home Friday, we made it back to our apartment and hung out with some friends for the night. Saturday morning, we slept in. I was exhausted from the week before and really needed to just veg out for the night.

The only thing The Pilot really wanted to do for his birthday was go see American Sniper so we headed out for an afternoon show in Georgetown on Saturday making a stop at Dog Tag Bakery first.

Dog Tag opened at the end of last year and I've been wanting to check it out ever since. The bakery is a work-study program for wounded veterans and their families and all proceeds from the bakery supports their programs for wounded veterans. Their official hash tag is #bakingadifference and I love it. I love the mission, I love the food, I love everything about this place and will definitely be back!

After the movie, we headed out to H Street with some friends to celebrate The Pilot's birthday. It was a great mix of friends (old and new) and we had a lot of fun! We weren't sure if he was going to be able to come home for the weekend, so it was great that he was and that he could celebrate his birthday at home with friends instead of in a hotel room somewhere!

Sunday morning, we slept in again. We did some things around the house and I made him an early birthday dinner before he took off for his next trip.

It was over 60 degrees yesterday and I just couldn't pass up the chance to run (especially since I skipped out on my run the day before) so I took off for an easy 4 miles around my neighborhood and it was awesome. It was definitely the best run I've had this year...making me realize that I should never train for a spring race again because I hate running in the cold.

All in all, it was an awesome weekend. I got a lot of things done around the apartment and got the rest I needed to power through the week. It's going to be a good one!

I hope your weekends were just as awesome as mine was!
Happy Monday!

  1. That first picture is amazingly cute, love it!!! I know you missed your husband!

I've never heard of that bakery, but you bet I will be visiting soon. It sounds like an amazing cause.

Glad you had fun celebrating the Pilot. And good for you running on Sunday. I had a bazillion errands to run and couldn't make it for a real run. We will get one together on the books for sure...when it warms up of course ;)

  2. LOVE that pic of you two "reuniting"....ten days might not be the longest you've been apart, but it's still a good amount of time. It's good that you're excited :) That picture is everything.
So glad that you were able to get in some birthday celebrating before he had to jet off again! The weather yesterday was incredible!! The perfect weekend gift for sure!

Our weekend here was pretty great since my brother is here! Nick took a break from school and we all went out. Hope you have a great week and talk to you SOON!
