This Weekend...in New York

Ahhh the three day weekend. Such a fantastic luxury.

There are three ways to have a three-day weekend.

1. Take an extra day off and turn it into a 4-day.
2. Have a stay-cation. Be a tourist in your own city. Stay in. Get things done around the house.
3. Go away somewhere for 2 of the 3 days and spend the third day back in the comfort of your own home.

For this first 3-day weekend of 2014, I chose #3. Friday, after work, I made my way to Reagan Airport to catch a flight to Newark to start my weekend. My mom picked me up from the airport and we went home and stayed up way too late talking.

Saturday, my mom and I headed into New York to meet up with my college best friend and Maid of Honor, Danielle for a full day of wedding dress adventures. We met Danielle in Grand Central Station and then made our way to the Garment District.

We knew exactly what we were looking for. It didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would, but after a few short hours, I had a dress.

I'll save all of the details for a wedding post to spare those of you who don't want to read anything about another wedding, but for those of you who are interested, check back Wednesday because I'll share all of the fabulous details of my wedding dress!

After our shopping adventures, we went to grab lunch, followed by a stop at Macaroon for hot chocolate and macaroons!

From there, we went to go look at bridesmaid dresses in the absolute jungle that is R&K Bridal. I was expecting a quiet bridal salon and what I got instead was more like Running of the Brides! We got out of there pretty quickly, did a little bit more shopping and called it a day.

Sunday, I headed to my old stomping grounds (Union Square) for coffee at Coffee Shop with my NYC running buddy, Emily. We caught up on just about everything before I headed back uptown to meet my mom and sister for brunch at KTCHN.

We ordered not-so bottomless mimosas (seriously, who puts a time limit on bottomless brunch!) and the most decadent French toast I may have ever had. We drank entirely too many mimosas and then ambled over to the Theater District to cash in on our Christmas gift from my mom's boyfriend, tickets to see Once.

I loved the music in Once. I've gotten really into folk music lately and this was right up there along the lines with Mumford and Sons or Phillip Phillips. The story itself was a little slow moving, but I still really enjoyed the show.

We left the matinee show and made our way to Penn Station, where I hopped on a train to the airport and boarded a flight home. I got in around 9pm last night, sat on my couch and finished the book I was reading and called it a night.

Today, I'm enjoying my day off and looking forward to a short work week!

What's your favorite way to spend a 3-day weekend? Did you have one this week? How did you spend it?

  1. Personally I think mimosas should be bottomless all day, all the time ;-)

  3. Does Once have anything to do with the movie? I haven't seen a musical in awhile. It's time.

    Sounds like a fun weekend.
