If I Won the Lottery...

The Powerball is currently estimated at $800 million - the largest jackpot in history. It seems like everyone is throwing their hat in the ring. Lines at convenience stores around DC have been unusually long and everyone seems to be talking about the lottery.

I'm pretty sure I'm destined to not win the lottery. My grandfather won the lottery twice and my college roommate won. Neither of them won sums nearly this large, but they still brought home quite a bit of money! Some of my friends say that that's more of a reason I should play, but I don't think so. Needless to say, I'll probably head out and pick up a $2 ticket today...if I remember to.

Win or lose, it's fun to think about just what I would do with that kind of money, so I made a list.

1. Pay off all of my student loans. The Pilot's too because you know, what's mine is yours.
2. Buy a house in London and live in it whenever I want.
3. Buy a house in DC for you know, real life.
4. Start a foundation that provides support for girls' education in the developing world.
5. Start an airline that doesn't charge for bags, actually boards back to front, doesn't start boarding flights until everyone in the gate is seated, offers unlimited snacks, bans people who threaten to never fly the airline again from actually flying it again (hey, we're just doing what you ask), offers scholarship programs to kids who want to be pilots, and pays their pilots a living salary (not an hourly wage) from the first day of training through retirement.
6. Get my PhD.
7. Set my parents up to retire.

Of course I would invest it and hire a lawyer, and all of those other necessary things, but these are just some of the fun things I think I'd do!

What would you do if you won the $800 million?
