I love hearing about different people's holiday traditions. It's so fun to hear about the different ways everyone celebrates the holidays. With Christmas right around the corner, I reached out to some of my favorite bloggers to share their holiday traditions! I've been fortunate enough to meet all of these wonderful ladies and I hope you'll enjoy their traditions, and click over to check out their blogs!
First up, Carolann from The Two Year Honeymoon. Carolann is actually a friend turned blogger and lives in Hawaii with her husband. We met in college and have been really close friends ever since.
Next is Holly from Faith, Hope, & Baseball and My Own Kind of Beauty , a Cleveland native who recently moved to Michigan. Holly and I have been reading each other's blogs for years and met when she oops'd her way to Philly during the 2012 Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon! We've been friends ever since. She even came to my wedding!
Jenn, of Going the Distance, and I started reading each other's blogs about a year ago and met up for the first time over the spring. She got married a few months before I did and we bonded over all of the craziness that is being engaged!
Sara from Dear Skim is another friend turned blogger! We worked together at NYU and have kept in touch through our blogs ever since we both graduated.
Last, but definitely not least, is Christine from Dream Big Runner. We've been reading each other's blogs and sharing running stories for a few years now! When I moved to DC, we met up to log some winter miles together! She's a new mama to a beautiful baby girl!
As for me, my favorite holiday tradition is celebrating Noche Buena (literally the Good Night, or Christmas Eve) at my mom's house. We eat roast pork, black beans, fried plantains and yuca. We drink espresso, dance merengue, and open presents.. It's a truly fabulous Dominican feast and I love it! I have to say though, it was quite the culture shock the first time The Pilot came to celebrate with us!

So, there you have it! I hope you check out these lovely ladies' blogs!
What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?
Your Dominican tradition sounds amazing! Growing up we had a lot of fun traditions: going to see lights, cookie baking parties, the nutcracker, church concerts, helping the homeless, and of course, going to see Santa. My favorite tradition is going to Christmas Eve service with my family, then coming home, taking family pictures [photo shoot time] and opening a small gift, while sipping wine.
ReplyDeleteThis year I'll be learning new traditions, as it is my first Christmas with my husband's family. I'll be sad missing out on my family traditions, but am VERY excited to create new ones! And hey, we might even get a WHITE CHRISTMAS, woohoo!
Loved reading about everyone's traditions and seeing the similarities and the differences! (plus I picked up some good ideas that I might start, myself!)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a post--thanks for asking me to be a part of it, friend!!
P.S. lets plan a get together after the holidays (and after your move since I know you will be suuuuper busy with that!)
I think it's so cool how everyone has such different traditions surrounding the holidays! Makes it so much more special for each person. I loved reading your traditions, and thanks for including me in this post!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Haha, I am very amused that people had legit traditions and I was just like "OPEN UP THE PRESENTS EARLY!!" This was so sweet though, and there are a lot of things I'd love to adopt into traditions as I get older. <3 Thank you for letting me be a part of this festive bunch!
ReplyDeleteChristy! I love hearing about how people celebrate the holidays and I absolutely loved reading all of these traditions. Your Christmas Eve sounds like so much fun, too! Thank you so much for including me - it totally made my day, and I can't wait to check out some of your other blog friends!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks for sharing, love this idea!!
