Our Wedding: The Ceremony

I love reading people's wedding stories on their blogs, and I hope you all feel the same because this will, I'm sure, be just one of many posts I write about our wedding.

As I said yesterday, I don't have any of our professional pictures yet, and probably won't for awhile, so for now, I've pulled this together with what's been posted on social media by our friends and family members!

I don't have any pictures from before the ceremony, but I'll say this. I had every intention of waking up the morning of my wedding and going for a run. My friend Emily was going to join me. When I woke up an hour before my alarm, I texted her to see if she was up. She was, so I got dressed and went to grab my sneakers and realized that I had never brought my sneakers or socks to the hotel! Not intending to let anything ruin the day, Emily and I went for a nice, long walk, which was perfect.

When I got back, I showered, ate, and started getting ready...and it started raining...and then it started pouring. By the time I left for the church with my mom, it looked like one of those days where it's just going to downpour all day long. Knowing that this would move our pictures and our cocktail hour indoors, I was pretty upset about it, but our photographer was amazing and was reassuring me that our pictures would be perfect, even if we had to take them indoors.

Our ceremony was at a church in Arlington at 2:00 and I was determined that it would start at 2:00 on the dot, and it did!

My dad walked me down the aisle.
Our church is tiny, which is awesome, because as soon as I walked in, I saw everyone in the pews. I couldn't see The Pilot because his brother (the Best Man) was standing outside the pew, directly in front of him! I may have walked in just a little too fast because I was so eager to see him!

When I got to the top of the aisle, and he took my hand, my legs just started shaking! I wasn't nervous, but I was so excited and everything just finally hit me...it was finally here, we were getting married!

We didn't do a "first look" so this was it!
We had a Catholic ceremony and it was beautiful. The music brought me to tears. Our cantor (who we found somewhat last minute after the first one backed out of our wedding) was amazing!

The ceremony went by pretty quickly. It was done in under an hour (which is very quick for Catholic weddings!) and we were officially declared husband and wife!

After our first kiss, we made our way back down the aisle together.

As soon as we got outside, the first thing I yelled was, "It stopped raining!"

(This seems like as good a place as any to end this post. I'll be back later this week with more!)

Questions about our wedding or planning for me OR him?
I'm happy to do a tell all/ask the pilot with answers! Just post them below!

I'm back!

Good morning!

I'm back! The Pilot and I made it back to DC around 10:00 on Saturday night, and let me tell you, I didn't think we would.

Between an Air France pilot strike (that started the day we started our honeymoon, and ended the day we got back) and an air traffic control tower fire in Chicago, air travel out of Paris and into the US was almost impossible, with every flight oversold and us trying to fly standby.

If it hadn't been for a Newark flight that got cancelled, and later rescheduled, I think we'd still be in Paris...and considering I boarded that flight with a fever somewhere between 101 and 103, that would have just been terrible.

Luckily, we made it back to Newark, waited around in the United Club (free passes from Mom!) for a few hours before realizing that if we did get home by plane, it wouldn't be until at least 10 or 11pm, so we rented a car and drove home.

I'm still sick, though feeling much better than I was yesterday and the day before, thanks to a mix of antibiotics, Zicam, and home remedies. Thankfully, I'm functioning enough to start my new job today!

Since I'm jet lagged and up way before my alarm, I just wanted to pull a quick post together to say hi! I don't have a lot of wedding photos yet (just the ones that have been tagged on Facebook and Instagram) but I'll post some of those this week for sure!

And of course, I've got quite a lot of honeymoon photos to sort through, but I have every intention of recapping our honeymoon day by day, because it was awesome! Until then, I'll leave you with this picture of the view from our balcony on Santorini.

Our wedding was perfect, our honeymoon was spectacular, and it is so, so good to be home.

Married.

Our wedding day was absolutely spectacular.

I can't even begin to put into words just how perfect everything was, so for now, I'll just leave you with this.

I'm sure I'll have much more to say after our honeymoon!

Tonight, we take off for Paris for a few days. Then, we'll head to Athens for another few days before sailing for the Greek Isles.

It's going to be amazing!

Wedding Week!

It's here! It's finally here!

My mom got in yesterday afternoon with my dress and we're just finishing everything up. It's been an easy week, just a lot of running around!

My dad, plus all six of my siblings and The Pilot's family all get in tomorrow and then the weekend will kick off!

I'm so excited! I don't know if I'm more excited to get married or to see all of our friends and family coming from 19 different states and 2 countries! It's going to be incredible!

I had grand, glorious plans of scheduling a bunch of posts for the time we're away on our honeymoon, but that just hasn't happened! I'm hoping to touch base again before Saturday if things slow down a little bit, we'll see!

I also had grand, glorious plans of running 14 miles today, but my knee was giving me some trouble on Sunday during my 11 mile run after Peyton made a bolt on Saturday night and pulled me into a metal pole giving me a bruise the size (and shape!) of Texas on my knee. The bruise is going down and the pain has gone down, so I'm get in some kind of run before the wedding!

Today, on deck...finishing the last of the cookies I baked for the hotel welcome bags (yup, I went there), dropping off the hotel welcome bags, getting a pedicure, and relaxing.

Hope you're all having a great week!

Love/Don't Love

1.Our wedding is less than 10 days away! Love.
2. I've been saying for weeks that I want to get everything for the wedding done this week and we still aren't quite done. Given the uncertainty in my job situation, I took about two weeks off from even thinking about the wedding, so we're a little behind. Don't Love.
3. Our wedding is less than 10 days away. (Yes, I know I already said that) I still can't believe that it still feels far away, but I'm so excited! Love.
4. Our apartment is exploding with wedding stuff. This is probably the cleanest corner of our living room. Don't Love.

5. I started reading Unbroken by Laura Hillebrand. It's so so good. Love.

6. Before everything went up in the air with my job, I took a few days off to relax. It was cloudy and/or raining all of those days. Now that I have two weeks off, the forecast is cloudy for the forseeable future. I want to get more pool time in! Don't Love.
7. Marathon training is going. That's about all I can say. My 10 miler this past weekend just wore me out, and my last two runs haven't been great either. Today is a rest day and I'm tackling 11 or 12 tomorrow instead of this weekend, so that I can get in another long run next week before the wedding. I'm hoping I'm just having an off week. We'll see. Love/Don't Love.

So, there you have it!
I'm looking for book recommendations for our honeymoon! Got any?
Are you training for a fall race?

Funemployment

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Mine was fun and very productive. Although, I did a 10 mile run in the brutal DC heat we had on Sunday that put me out of commission for most of Sunday and Monday. I haven't done a run that tough in a really long time...in fact, I think it might have been the hardest run I've ever done.

Now that I'm recovered though, it's time to get back at it and get stuff done. This week is all about deep cleaning our apartment and organizing all of our wedding stuff so that it's good to go next week.

The good thing is, I'm off until after the wedding, so I can really just relax leading up to and after our big day. This is all part of where my blogging silence came in to play.

About two weeks ago, I found out that the organization I worked for was undergoing some significant changes and my department was being eliminated. When I found out that I had less than two weeks left at my job...three weeks before our wedding, just about everything (wedding planning, marathon training, blogging, etc.) took a backseat.

I'm happy to say that on Thursday, I officially accepted an offer, one that I think I'll love just as much as I loved my last one, and one that I think will be very, very good for me, professionally.

Deep down, I knew that this would turn out to be a blessing in disguise, and it has, but those two weeks were so, so trying. I won't start my new job until after the wedding, which is really exciting. As much as I feel like I now have all the time in the world, I really only have about two weeks. I plan to take that time to finish everything up and just enjoy DC before we tie the knot!

So, there you have it. I've got a lot of really good things coming my way and it's going to be an awesome ride.

As for today though, I've got a friend in town and I'm going to go play tourist!

Until next time!
