1. Cross-Training - Every training cycle, I go through the... "I'm going to be SO GREAT" at cross-training this time around!"... and it never happens. This time around, things have been different. While trying to cross-train on certain assigned days of the week has been almost impossible, I've basically just been doing it when I feel like it. I bought an unlimited monthly pass to a yoga studio this month and last month and that has been a huge help...forking over $100 to a yoga studio makes me want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth! I love the studio because they incorporate a bunch of different yoga and pilates classes. This week, I also tried Bar Method which totally kicked my ass and my triceps are still sore from it, but I absolutely loved it! I've got a pretty intense sweat schedule coming up and I'm really excited about it. I've definitely seen an improvement in the way I feel during and after my tough runs that I can only attribute to cross-training.
2. The Doctor - I've been really fortunate this training cycle to be healthy and not have any major issues that are affecting my running. I feel like I've had some sort of issue every training cycle. The only thing going on is that my right hip is extremely tight. I rotated my hips in a nasty spill down the stairs in college and I think that's what's going on. While it doesn't hurt when I'm running, it can get pretty tight leaving me on the side of the road to stretch it out, so I'm going to get it checked out tomorrow so that hopefully I can get into PT and start stretching it out so that my hips are in top shape for New York...because no amount of hip opening stretches in yoga has done the trick.

3. Reality - Post-grad life has been...challenging, to say the least. I haven't talked about it at all on my blog but it's been a tough summer entering into the world of a recent grad. This week I started a new job. It's not at all what I thought I would be doing but it's something I've always said that I could do while I'm working things out and I'm happy that things have worked out with it. So far, I love it. The people I work with are fantastic and it's a great job with awesome benefits so I'm excited to see how things go with this.
That's my Thursday!
Hope you're all having a great week and are gearing up for an awesome weekend!

It's cool, I'm not doing a DAMN THING. love you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your job! I hear you on cross training. I always want to do it, but I never do it. I don;t go to the gym anymore since I have the treadmill. But it's probably an excuse, because I have 1000 of home DVD's at home... untouched. Oops!!
ReplyDeleteI wish the yoga studio I go to had an unlimited pass! Theirs is $199/month but I can't really go as much as I want every week so I'd rather pay that for a few months instead of 1. Oh well :) I'm glad you're enjoying it there!
ReplyDeleteI hope your hip starts to feel better :)
I am so glad you are enjoying your "right now" job! I hope things turn around for ya and you can find the perfect "career" job soon :)
